Black History Month Performance Series

Engaging and inspiring close to 10,000 students annually

Every year SCDT’s Black History Month Performance series serves close to 10,000 students through performances in Chicago Public Schools and other neighboring school districts. Entitled Dancing Through the Great Migration, The Black History Month performance series is a 40-minute interactive show for Pre- K through grade twelve students that educates young people about landmark aspects of Black History such as the Black National Anthem, the impact of Black people on the arts in the United States, important voices such as Maya Angelou and also engages students around college and career paths in the arts.
