Black history in motion.
Every year, SCDT’s Black History Month Performance Series serves close to 10,000 students through performances in Chicago Public Schools and neighboring school districts.
Entitled Dancing Through the Great Migration, the series is a 40-minute interactive performance created for students from Pre-K through grade twelve.
History. Artistry. Possibility.
The program introduces young people to landmark aspects of Black history, including the Black National Anthem, the impact of Black artists on the arts in the United States and important literary voices such as Maya Angelou.
Students are also invited to explore college and career paths in the arts through direct engagement with SCDT artists.
Nearly 15,000 students reached annually through performance, participation, and shared history.
